Karen Eckert

Karen has been a High School ELA teacher since 1996, an adjunct at ECC working with the Advanced Studies department in both the English and Social Science programs since 2006, and creator and curator of Collect Art, an online art gallery.  Most recently, Karen has been working with local gallerists and power women to respond to current issues and concerns with the newly formed ArtReach.

Karen lives in Hamburg with her artist husband, 3 children, and 4 rescue pets.

As a single mom, and a teacher, I didn’t become a part of the art scene in Buffalo until I started dating an artist.  At first, I was intimidated, worried about what to wear, what to say … until I took the plunge and purchased my first artwork.  I was hooked.  Walking past it, hanging on my living room wall, I saw something new every single day.  It had a voice and I wanted more.  In 2015, my husband and I formed Collect Art to help others see the value in appreciating and supporting the arts in Buffalo, NY.

Then, in January of 2017, ArtReach was formed.  I am extremely proud to be a part of this unique and incredible venture.  Through art, and the sale of fine works of art, we are directly helping and promoting charities and organizations in our community… organizations that are currently underfunded, underappreciated, and under attack.  We are striving to make sure Buffalo remains a welcome and safe community that promotes and celebrates diversity and equality.
